Germany is the single most misunderstood destination among Pakistani applicants. The tuition really is close to zero at public universities, and the engineering and computer science faculties really are world-class. What defeats applicants is not cost or competitiveness — it is procedure.
Three procedural gates decide most German outcomes: uni-assist document pre-evaluation, APS certification through the Pakistani APS office, and the blocked account. Each has its own lead time, its own document format, and its own failure modes. Miss the sequencing and you lose an entire intake, not a week.

The Gates You Must Clear.
APS Certificate
Mandatory for Pakistani applicants. The Academic Evaluation Centre verifies your degrees before a German university will process you. Lead time is significant and entirely outside your control, so it must be started first, not last.
uni-assist Pre-Evaluation
Most public universities route international applications through uni-assist, which checks your documents against German equivalence standards. Formatting errors here cause silent rejections that never reach the university itself.
Blocked Account (Sperrkonto)
Roughly €11,904 deposited with an approved provider, released to you monthly after arrival. The account must be opened, funded, and confirmed before your visa appointment — and the source of funds must be documentable.
Degree Equivalence
A Pakistani 4-year BS is generally accepted for Master's entry; a 2-year BA/BSc usually is not without a bridging qualification. Establishing this honestly at the outset saves an entire wasted application cycle.
